” David’s Song ” – Baritone Ukulele Cover
This tune was composed by Vladimir Cosma for the German TV movie " Die Abenteuer des David Balfour" ( 1978 ).
It was covered by The Kelly Family in 1980 and a Nr.1 Hit in the Netherlands and Belgium.
There was a time when this band was quite famous in Germany and the neighboring states.
And only there.
Like David Hasselhoff ...
I played my Ortega RUE14FMH baritone ukulele, which is tuned in dropped D
( D G B D ).
I replaced some plastic rings at the tuners with steel plain washers. A guitar engineer made a setup. Since then I'm quite satisfied with this bari. It has a warm, mellow tone.
I used a Techra 1,00 carbon pick and carbon guitar strings by Hannabach.
I recorded this song with my Zoom Q3HD.

Love it! I’m old enough (and German) to remember the TV movie and the song from the Kelly Family – their first success I believe. I wish you could make tabs available for this but I think if find the chords I can figure out the rest (and I don’t play baritone anyway).
Thanks Caroline. Sorry I have no tabs for this tune, all done by the ear.
I play it in Dminor.
If you remember this song, you might know Vladimir Cosma’s biggest sucess ” Reality ” from the film ” La Boum “:

Holy cow, goosebumps!!! Of course I remember the film and the song. Nostalgia to the max!! And I had no idea both songs were written by the same person. Are you working on a cover of Reality by any chance? That would be so awesome. I actually dug around for guitar chords for David’s Song and downloaded them for future use. I’ll be watching your video for hints on how to handle the picking. I am still very green (I got my ukulele for christmas) but have a lot of fun practicing.
I didn’t plan to do a version of ” Reality “, but maybe in the future. It’s quite a cheesy song.
If you’re a newbie you might take a look at my playalongs to get a feeling for the instrument.
Strum on.
