” It’s My Party ” – Ukulele Cover By FriendlyFred
Here's my rendition of the 60s hit " It's my party ":
Risa LP Tenor Mahagony ( I'm in Risa's second demo video too ). For the backing I used the apps Garageband and Drum Loops HD. I recorded the stuff with my Zoom Q3HD.
Lesley Gore was only 16 years old, when she recorded " It's my party ". That was the beginning of a long-lasting career as a singer. The song was produced by Quincy Jones and released in April 1963. It became an international No. 1 hit soon.
This was her biggest success, but many great other songs like " Cry me a river " or " You don't own me " followed.
There are many cover versions of " It's my party ": Bryan Ferry, Dave Stewart, Amy Whinehouse and many others sang this tune.
In 1980, WCBN-FM a student radio station from Michigan, played " It's My Party " for 18 hours straight the day after Ronald Reagan was elected.
In Robin Thicke's song " Sex Therapy " an interpolation of the chorus was used:
" It's your body we'll go hard if you want to
As hard as you want to, soft as you want to "
So the producers of Mr. Thicke didn't just copy the music of Marvin Gaye. Cheers to the Gaye family, a jury awarded them 7,4 Mio for the rip-off.
In the following video you can watch a great live performance by Mrs. Gore accompanied by an orchestra. You can hear the dry sound with hardly any sound effects.
Ok, the crowd didn't really go wild, but it looks like a studio production. And some of the girls in the audience sing along.
Compare this voice to some female singers of today. First, here's Brittney Spears:
Or how about Courtney Love:
Lesley Gore died of lung cancer on February 16, 2015 at the age of 68. RIP.
